Institute of neuroscience and cognition

Institute of neuroscience and cognition (INC) of the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences was founded in 2000. The principal objective of this institute is to integrate basic, translational, and clinical research in neuroscience from molecule to behavior approaches. Expanding the scientific knowledge of neuroscience and finding appropriate and useable preventive and curative medical procedures are the basic conceptual aims at this center.

The INC is a center of excellence for brain research and neuroscience education in Iran. Multidisciplinary researches are conducted in various neuroscience research areas such as neurodegenerative diseases, neurodevelopmental disorders, psychiatric diseases, addiction, pain, epilepsy, memory and learning. Both animal and human studies are conducted at this institute, employing a range of approaches including bioinformatic analyses, molecular investigations, behavioral tests, electrophysiological recordings, as well as brain imaging and genetic studies. Opportunities for training, consultation, use of facilities, and collaborative research are available to researchers and students at INC.

The INC offers some programs designed to train candidates for a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, as well as postdoctoral fellows and MDs for careers as physician-scientists. To this end, we have forged collaborate with highly ranked national and international research institutes to provide expertise and technology development services.

In addition to collaboration with many academic departments across the world, including USA, China, Brazil, Canada, and Australia, INC has close collaboration with the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) in organizing yearly IBRO School of Neuroscience, training doctoral and post-doctoral students from the Asian-Pacific regions.

The investigators in the INC contribute to a growing neuroscience research community through scientific collaboration, pre- and post-doctoral training programs, jointly sponsored seminar series and special interest groups.
